To Serve: Who Do You Think You Are?
So on Friday I went in to work with a pretty positive attitude but a lot of times it seems the rain brings out the worse in people. My first few tables we some of the meanest customers I've had but there was one table that made sure he was memorable. This was a table of one, an older man. He seemed kind at first but proved to be the exact opposite. I had a table of one with a man who seemed like he was pretty nice until i brought him his drink. He asked me to bring him a Michelob beer IN a chilled glass with emphasis on IN but when I bought him the beer, remember IN, in a chilled glass he looked shocked and asked "where is the bottle?" I apologized and said "I thought that you meant you wanted us to pour the beer into the glass for you so that is what we did." He then began to rudely rant to me about how I needed to learn more about my job, how i needed to be in the "soda-only section of the restaurant", and how I'm the one who needs tips so I should be better. I know you thinking not all that because he didn't get the bottle what did you say to him, but I solemly swear I did not say anything but ok, then as he rolled his eyes at me and nearly laughed at me in my face for his own incorrect communication I asked him, "Would you like a different server?" I figured he obviously didn't like me because I didn't bring him his "baba" (baby language for bottle), so I would no longer upset him. He replies to me rudely, "No you will do." By this time I could feel the heat rising from my feet and into my finger nails, I was getting fed up with his ugly attitude and I hadn't even bought him bread or gotten his order, so I then told him, "I AM GOING to get you another waiter".
Question:
Was I wrong?
Tip for those who eat out:
Your server is doing you a favor you a customer in a long line of customers, your tip is not necessary, and you can be refused service.
I personally will never serve anyone who disrespects me! My pride is worth more than your pocket change.
I think you did the right thing rather than continuing to serve him and ending up in an altercation with him. I know that I am not that patient so that is why I would never want to be a waitress but more power to you!
ReplyDeleteI understand what you are going through. Some people are just naturally irritating. Did you offer to get him another beer? Maybe he was just having a bad day and needed to make himself feel better by being rude to you. What a sad life he must have. Hope your week gets better.
